Once the top marquee of GM‘s family of brands, Cadillac fell into hard times starting with the advent of foreign luxury automobiles. The brand suffered another blow in the last decade through its critical design transformation period, also known as “Art & Science”, and subsequent bankruptcy of GM. But all that is about to change. With consecutive positive returns in profitability and glowing reviews over its quality, Cadillac is planning to overtake its German and Japanese competitors in the next few years as the largest luxury auto maker in the U.S. One essential aspect of this new strategy would be the introduction of a new Cadillac flagship model that is likely to base on this concept here, the Cadillac Ciel.

In a surprising debut at last summer’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Cadillac Ciel (pronounce as “C-L” or Sky in French) is a four-door convertible concept with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine. A hybrid as well, both its conventional engine and electric motor are capable of an output of 425 horsepower. Though it is a convertible, the Ciel comfortably seats four adults with “suicide hinged doors” for rear passengers. In fact, the concept is a foot longer than Cadillac CTS, the brand’s mid-size sedan. Expressively sculpted to reflect both Cadillac’s storied past and GM’s re-bound, the concept features many more luxurious elements inside including heated/cooled sports leather seats, aromatherapy dispenser, cigar humidor, and cashmere blanket.
