An ultimate form of storytelling, acting is also the art of pertaining, where the personality, on screen or on stage, is often less relatable to the actual person. But there are those rare occasions, where the fictional portrayal is no different to that of real-life. Actress Katee Sackhoff is among those few. Best known for her role as the hard charging Captain Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on sci-fi television series Battlestar Galactica, Sackhoff shares a passion for speed with her fictitious persona. A motorcycle enthusiast, she recently asked Richmond, Virginia’s Classified Moto to build her next bike.
With a complete free rein from Sackhoff, except a request not to have her feet behind her body while riding, Classified Moto’s John Ryland re-purposed a 1987 Honda XL600R enduro by swapping in a front end from a 2005 Kawasaki ZX6-R and a single side swingarm taken from a 2006 Triumph Sprint. But far from a “Frankenstein’s Bike” in the raw, Ryland further refined the creation with Progressive Suspension shock, custom pipes and muffler by Seth Ingham, and custom seat by Roy Baird. Throughout the construction process, camera crew from TV show Cafe Racer documented the event. When completed finally, the Classified Moto KT-600 was a true modder’s dream bike, or as Starbuck would say “Frakking cool!”.
