In an effort to raise awareness on the danger of childhood obesity, Nike will be teaming up with First Lady Michelle Obama‘s LET’S MOVE! Initiative in bringing back exercise-related coursework to schools.
Because of a number of circumstances, including budget restraints and changing lifestyle, only 1 out of 3 children in the U.S. are active on a daily basis. More alarming is the fact that only 4% of elementary schools, 8% of middle schools and 2% of high schools, have physical education courses in place. In addition only 6 states require these courses in every grade. However, there are ample statistics which show the benefits of a daily 60 minutes routine in a child. Regular physical activities not only improve health, but classroom behaviors, attendance levels, and test scores.
In bring attention to the matter, Mark Parker, Nike President & CEO, will be joining First Lady Michelle Obama later on today for an important announcement. Nike also signed up to be a major supporter of LET’S MOVE Active Schools, the First Lady’s initiative to incorporate physical education back into schools across the U.S
