With a top speed of 254.04 miles per hour (or 408.84 km/h), the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse has claimed the mantle of world’s fastest open-top production car. The record-setting speed was achieved at Volkswagen Group’s proving grounds in Ehra-Lessien, Germany, with Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu behind the wheel. TUV, the renowned independent German organization for Technical Inspection and Certification, was on hand to record and verify the achievement. The World Record Car, finished in a two-tone black and orange paint job, will be unveiled later this month at the Shanghai Motor Show. Additionally, Bugatti will sell eight World Record Editions modeled after the original for the sum of 1.99 million euros (or approximately $2.61 million USD).
