The crew over at designboom recently had the opportunity to travel to Munich to check out the debut of Audi‘s upcoming RS 6 Avant. Certainly exceeding the performance standards of your mom’s wood-paneled station wagon, the high-performance four-door boasts a twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8 TFSI engine capable of a whopping 560 hp and more than 516 lb-ft of torque – thus allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds. The new wagon also couples an automatic transmission with an eight-speed tiptronic for shorter shifts and both smoother and more precise gear changes while AWD and a center differential aid in efficient performance no matter the conditions. Also of note is Audi’s continued focus on weight reduction – a point of emphasis on the recently unveiled TT Ultra Quattro Concept – as the 2014 edition of the RS 6 Avant weighs more than 220 lbs less than its predecessor due to its hybrid aluminum body construction. Complete with updates like a redesigned interior, Xenon Plus headlights, LED tail lights, and high-gloss black accents throughout, the 2014 Audi RS 6 Avant is expected to be offered primarily in Europe while North American audiences will likely miss out on the luxurious wagon.
