Famous for its GPS systems, Garmin is throwing its hat into an increasingly crowded action camera market with the introduction of the VIRB, a bulky 6.26-ounce camera heavier than its competitors. The model comes in both standard and elite versions, both of which can record 1080p video for up to three hours on a single charge. (It can also shoot 16-megapixel still photos while recording video.) There’s a 1.4-inch ambient-lit display built into a case that’s shock-resistant and waterproof up to 30 minutes. Adrenaline junkies can record their adventures by mounting the VIRB to their shoulder, head, wrist, or bike, while Garmin’s ANT+ technology enables connections to accessories like a heart rate monitor or temperature sensor. The standard VIRB sells for $299, while the $399 VIRB Elite packs WiFi and GPS, along with sensors including an altimeter and an accelerometer. Check out the video overview below, and find the VIRB available for purchase now directly from Garmin.
