The smartwatch bandwagon is getting a bit more crowded these days, as we’ve seen new contributions to the field in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Gear and Sony SmartWatch 2. The latest example comes from an unexpected source: the Nismo watch from Nissan, a wearable concept designed to connect drivers to the Japanese automaker’s line of high-performance Nismo vehicles. The watch is connected to the car through Bluetooth Low Energy, using a smartphone app to convey pertinent data like speed and fuel consumption. Additionally, the watch also monitors the driver’s heart rate, as well as an equally important metric — the wearer’s social performance across Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. It’s all housed in a sleek design using a snap-fit glass band and rechargeable lithium battery said to last seven days with normal use. The Nissan Nismo smartwatch concept is set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
