Killer Mike was a guest on CNN yesterday where he spoke on the ongoing situation in Ferguson, MO after the police shooting of teenager Mike Brown. As usual, Mike eloquently touches on a number of salient points about the culture of police work and young Black men in America. Nothing surprising there.
Then today, Talib Kweli was on air with anchor Don Lemon, who has been reporting from the ground for a few days now, and the segment quickly deteriorated into an on-air argument about Lemon’s greeting and interview technique. Kweli started off by challenging one of CNN’s stories on clashes between protesters and police last night, and it could have been an interesting conversation, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
Kweli’s main point is extremely valid, and his issue here was with a specific story, but I’ve been watching CNN’s coverage off and on for a few days now, and it seems to me like it’s been largely sympathetic to the protesters and citizens of Ferguson. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some cringeworthy moments as well.
