Looking to fill a morning void, the Wakie app combines the dating aspects of a service like Tinder with the basic functionality of your mobile device’s alarm clock. In essence, users will wake up to a call from a random member of the opposite sex and have the ability to talk for no more than one minute. Upon registering, users will enter their phone number, gender, and whether or not they are “sleepyhead” – someone who wishes to receive calls – or a “wakie” – someone who wishes to make calls. If no wakies are available, the app will revert to a traditional alarm, and as an added security measure, numbers are only exchanged if both parties choose to do so. Sure it sounds a bit strange, but Wakie has already taken off in places like Russia, where 1.5 million users have placed over 30 million calls. Wakie is only available for Android phones, and can be downloaded here.
