After years of building racecars and off-road trucks, Jeff Veraldi’s next project was a custom BMW K100 Cafe Racer–although it originally wasn’t by design. In fact, Veraldi took on the project after breaking his back in an off-road race, literally using the project as his physical, occupational, and mental therapy after almost paralyzing himself. While the custom BMW K100 Cafe Racer looks clean and light now, it didn’t start out that way: the Flying Brick was stripped back to its basics, revealing a sleek and monochromatic body. Veraldi then swapped in Brembo brakes and master cylinders and added in Bosch electronics and Fichtel and Sachs forks that help steer the in-line 4-cylinder 998cc engine, which he left alone. A stainless steel exhaust, new fuel injectors, and a car starter and alternator finish the performance tweaks while new springs drop height by 1.5 inches, custom bars, a combined GPS speedometer and tach finish the custom work. After seven months of rehab, Veraldi was finally able to swing his leg over and go for a much deserved ride. All together, a gorgeous look for a bike that has to-date has received little love.
