VOLKSWAGEN C COUPE GTE – OFFICIAL REVEAL

Volkswagen has come a long way from Germany to show off something big at Auto Shanghai: their new Volkswagen C Coupe GTE. Low and long, the C Coupe GTE is a slick, aggressive offering that paves the way for VW to gain market share in the crowded large sedan segment. As VW’s head of design puts it, “the Volkswagen C Coupe GTE very clearly shows the new ‘face’ of top Volkswagen sedans for the first time.” In other words, expect to see far more like this from the German brand in the years to come. Boasting a four-passenger configuration with plenty of luxury to go around, riders front and back can share data via the car’s infotainment system, including upcoming appointments and an associated navigation route for the day perfect for hitting each point on your agenda. Under the hood, drivers will find a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a 14.1-kWh lithium-ion battery, all mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined, the two parts put out 242 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and Volkswagen says the C Coupe can travel up to 31 miles in electric mode, reaching 102 miles per gallon or a maximum 684 mile total range. The only downside? VW USA says this concept was specifically designed for the Chinese market.
