Puerto Rican Soccer Team Purchased by Carmelo Anthony

The New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony has this week become owner of Puerto Rican soccer team, Puerto Rico FC. Anthony, who is of Puerto Rican descent and coming off the back of a difficult season with the Knicks in which he only featured in 40 games, was pictured signing the contract on Puerto Rico FC’s Twitter this Thursday. The newly formed team is set to feature in the North American Soccer League, starting in 2016, after the island’s last NASL team folded in 2012. Despite struggling with injury, and his new-found business opportunities, Anthony insists that playing for the Knicks is still his top priority, telling ESPN “Basketball is my No. 1 thing. I’m very hands-on, but it’s more about taking the time now during the offseason. I spend a lot of time in Puerto Rico training. I’ll do like a mini-training camp down there.”
