Netflix to Debut Its Own Feature Films in October

On-demand Internet streaming media provider Netflix is gearing up for the launch of its first feature film Beasts of No Nation, starring Idris Elba on October 16. With cinema ticket sales on the decline, Netflix recently announced the upcoming release of feature films in conjunction with select U.S. theaters, which also means these movies will qualify for industry awards. This model is good news for producers as it guarantees them earnings, regardless of ticket sales, and allows films to still benefit from critical praise. Following Beasts of No Nation, expect to see the first of four Adam Sandler films, starting with The Ridiculous Six, on December 11, as well as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend – a sequel to the 2000 Oscar winner – in the first quarter of 2016.
