We present an early preview of The Rise of Sneaker Culture, which officially opens to the public tomorrow at the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibition includes over 150 pairs, ranging from extremely rare collaborations (like the Chanel x Reebok Insta Pump Fury from 1997, as well as the one-off Bata x Wilson x John Wooden from 1977) to OGs old enough to be considered historical artifacts (an original Converse All Star from 1917). Unsurprisingly, Nike and Jordan are both well represented, with an entire section tracing the evolution of the Air Jordan line, spanning 1984 to 2008. Another section, entitled “Fresh,” covers the high-end, fashion-forward segment of the sneaker world, featuring models by the likes of Alexander McQueen, Jimmy Choo, Prada and Louis Vuitton (with an assist from Kanye West).

Organized by the American Federation of Arts, in partnership with the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, The Rise of Sneaker Culture will run until October 4, 2015. Be sure to check it out if you’re in the area.
