French fashion house Givenchy has announced the opening of its New York flagship store on the famed Madison Avenue. The new 400-square-meter location, which was designed by Ricardo Tiscihimself, will feature hardwood floors and a number of monochromatic blocks and podiums across the first floor, with a mezzanine located at the back end of the store. Oversized Givenchy campaigns will hang from the ceiling in a manner reminiscent of an art gallery, whereas the garments themselves will be laid out across the space rather than being hung on rails and mannequins. According to Tisci, “A journey through the store is a new and intriguing experience because visitors will see a space rather than an array of goods.” He continues, “The lack of decoration implies a sense of humility. The store is understated, it has an emptiness and offers pure space. You enter as yourself, on your own and leave as a member the Givenchy ‘tribe’ which describes an attitude, your clothes, and an openness to sharing ideas, while embracing the spirit of the brand.” This is the latest move the luxury brand has made in an effort to solidify its longstanding ties with the Big Apple, having just recently announced its forthcoming show for NYFW will be open to the public.
