The RZA has liberated a previously unreleased track by Ol’ Dirty Bastard that he unearthed while digging through the archives at the Wu Mansion. He told Rolling Stone that the song was recorded during the 1994 sessions for Dirty’s debut album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.
“He was fuckin’ buggin’ out on this song that night. Dirty felt that anything he made was supposed to be released. I was more critical of what we released. And even though some people may listen to his first album and go, ‘Shit, this is crazy, this song fits right in.’ To me, there was a method to the madness of what we did. And with the stuff that didn’t make the album, there was a clear reason why in the narrative of what I was striving to create with his style.”
After rediscovering the track, originally called “Bitches Better Obey Me,” RZA cleaned it up and finished it and is now partnering with speaker company Boombotix to make it available via the company’s REX portable speaker. Customers who purchase the speaker will get the original song, as well as remixes by Shash’U and High Klassified. Above, you can check out a new video for Shash’U’s version featuring Dirty’s son.
