After already announcing a jam-packed line-up of tantalizing film and food for its 10th anniversary in NYC, The Food Film Festival™ is bringing you more. The four-day festival, where you get to taste what you see on the screen, won’t rest until all your senses are satisfied. Feast your eyes (and bellies) on the latest and greatest independent food-films accompanied by a feast of incredible dishes sourced locally and from abroad. Festival Director George Motz says, “It’s hard to believe that we’ve been at it for 10 years now! In the beginning it was a challenge to find good food filmmaking…now it’s everywhere.”
What’s new at the celebration? Well, kicking off Opening Night: Best of a Decade, the kitchen staff of The Beatrice Inn have created a dish to serve with the film Mexican Cuisine. The Food Film Fest™ regulars, the award-winning Hometown BBQ, will be serving up their homemade SPAM sandwiches. To wash these treats down, Bruce Cost will be teaming up with Lagunitas to serve a special shandy during the after-party.
During Edible Adventure #015: Taste of Louisiana, we have just confirmed four of Louisiana’s greatest chefs to come school us all in the ways of Cajun cooking. Top it all off with Louisiana’s own Abita beer, and Louisiana-style cocktails from Donner-Peltier Distillers. Named “Best New Chef” by Food & Wine Magazine this year, Mike Gulotta ofMoPho, will be bringing his take on a traditional Boucherie dish. Chef Jason Goodenough of Carrollton Market is committed to paying tribute to the rich culinary traditions of NOLA, and to cooking with market fresh ingredients. Chef Cory Bahr, named 2015 People’s Best New Chef by Food & Wine Magazine, is the chef at Cotton, known for his Southern cuisine. Ryan Andre is the corporate chef of City Pork Brasserie and Bar, known for traditional Louisiana dishes with a unique international flair. Chef Collin Cormier of Pop’s Po Boys will be bringing his specialties, as well.
The Food Porn Party is back again, and the festival has just added a slew of scrumptious goodies. Buffalo’s Famous is bringing totally food-porn inspired, off-menu smorgasbord of dishes for the VIP Party. For the after-party, Meyers Bageri will be providing flaky fresh-baked danish pastries. Meanwhile, Butter & Scotch will be teaming up NY Distilling Co. to create food-porn inspired cocktails. Be on the lookout for three new films, Chocolate Babka Assembly is Unbelievably Beautiful, Kumamoto :: スクーターでのセックス, andCooking with Dr. Taquito. Breads Bakery will be serving up their critically-acclaimed chocolate babka at the after-party.
Closing night, Eat Japan!, features a film about (now closed) 2-Michelin star restaurant Sakurada in Kyoto. New York City’s own Kajitsu will be providing dishes for that. Also, we’ll be screening another film, Pounding Mochi with the Fastest Mochi Maker in Japan, The festival closes Sunday evening with a special Tsukemen experience by Masked Tsukemen Master Nigo-san. Will he finally reveal himself? Sun Noodle will be providing noodles for the night.
ABOUT THE NYC FOOD FILM FESTIVAL™
The Food Film Festival™ is a multisensory food and film experience. Over the course of 10 years, the Festival has hosted over 30,000 guests from New York City to Charleston to Copenhagen. Past events include a screening of The Mud and The Blood followed by an authentic Lowcountry Oyster Roast on a rooftop in Brooklyn with 15,000 South Carolina oysters, and the World Premiere of New York Cooks for Tohoku paired with dishes from Michelin Starred Chefs Boulud, Bouley, Romano, Telepan and Tadashi Ono. In 2012, the I [heart] Japan event featured Ramen Dreams star and Ramen Burger creator, Chef Keizo Shimamoto, who cooked and served his legendary ramen in the U.S. for the 1st time ever. And a special screening of John Markus’ The Kings of BBQ Barbecue Kuwait aboard the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in Charleston featuring a BBQ feast smoked on-site by the World Champion Pitmasters featured in the film.
The Food Film Festival™ is a competitive film festival and Official Selections are reviewed by a judging panel comprised of esteemed members of the food and film communities. Awards are presented in 7 categories including: Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Super-Short Film, Best Food Porn Film, The Audience Choice Award, The Made in New York Award and The Food Filmmaker of the Year Award.
The Food Film Festival™ hosts its flagship series of events in New York City every October and has curated and produced multiple events around the country. All Festival events benefit important non-profit organizations, such as the Food Bank For New York City, The Billion Oyster Project, The Good Food Project and GrowFood Carolina. The Festival works hard to promote these organizations and the important work they do.
