Last weekend marked a monumental day for Sneaker Con, as it was the very first time the event was held outside the home city of NYC. Not only that the Sneaker Con DC event attracted over 2,300 sneaker heads during the seven hour event, making it the biggest turn out ever recorded. If the photos of the event is anything to go by, it was a very successful day. The attendees were eager to show off the heat on their feet and many ended up a happy customer from the countless transactions that occurred at the convention. A large adidas Superstar was constructed just for the event and it engaged fans to leave their mark on the gigantic shoe.
What a day to be a sneakerhead. Also a regular in the rumor mill, the Air Jordan 3Black/Cement retro has been confirmed for 2011. This week Sony has started showcasing first images of their new PSP aka NGP (Next Generation Portable), their new portable gaming device.
“Designed to blur the lines between interactive entertainment and reality, the NGP will offer Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity. The 5-inch OLED front multi-touch display will bring brilliant images to life and the multi-touch pad on the rear will allow users to engage with the game and characters with a simple movement of their fingertips.”
Most interesting is the announcement of Playstation Suite, a new service based on the Android operating system, which will be working on Playstation Suite compatible devices and on the NGP.
“Also announced this evening was PlayStation Suite, an entirely new initiative from PlayStation that will provide fans with the opportunity to enjoy PlayStation content on an open operating system for the first time in PlayStation history. PlayStation Suite will work with Android based, “PlayStation Certified” portable devices – including mobile phones, smart-phones, and tablet PCs – to offer “PlayStation quality” content to users worldwide. In addition to providing a selection of PS one Classics, we are also working with developers to create new and exciting content that will be available on both PlayStation Certified devices and the new NGP when it comes to market”

To some, sport is career path. To others, sport is a channel and an outlet. Then there are those who see sport as a lifestyle, an integral part of their daily routine and individual identity. In Nike Sportwear‘s newest exploratory project, a 3-part series across Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles, the label sought out individuals who let their love of sport define who they are.
In the series’ first stop, Nike Sportswear tapped Shanghai-base photographer Tang Ting to documented the routines of 8 individuals and their kinship with sports. With only a 35mm film camera, Ting captured certain intimacy and immediacy between the subjects and us, the audience in only sequence of 5 images. The resulted work, Look of Sport: Shanghai, came away something unexpected. That despite political ideology, the youth in China today aren’t much different than their peers around the world, with similar aspirations and dreams

After giving you a first look at the wooden Dunk Hi sneaker from Japanese artist haroshi, we take a more detailed look at the Nike sneaker today.
“The special edition Dunk was actually created from decks belonging to skaters from Nike’s own pro skate team and include boards from the likes of: P-Rod, Lance Mountain, Eric Koston, Brian Anderson, Cory Kennedy and many more. The pair is actually modelled on a pair of haroshi’s own well-worn shoes. These detailed shots, illustrate each of the creases, crimps and even the knotted laces worked into the sculptures. Interestingly the curvature of the decks accurately matches that of the used Dunk, which is portrayed as a hidden message within the art. A second subliminal message is found under X-ray scanning, where “Sole in soul” is revealed, making a pun the skate artwork that finds itself on the underside of the shoe.”
